Steves, Manoah


STEVES, Manoah, pioneer settler (b 18 Dec 1828, Coverdale, NB; d 7 Dec 1897, Steveston). He came west and took up land on LULU ISLAND in 1877. Two years later he was among the petitioners requesting the incorporation of RICHMOND, and he was elected to the first local council in 1881. The DAIRY farm he and his wife established was still in the family in the late 1990s. Steves's eldest son, William Herbert Steves (1860–99), purchased and subdivided the STEVESTON townsite, started a NEWSPAPER...
