Silverton


SILVERTON, village, pop 222 (2001), lies on the east side of SLOCAN LK in the heart of the SELKIRK MTS in southeastern BC. It was founded in 1892 by William Hunter and Fred Hume, who opened a store and formed the Slocan Trading and Navigation Co. The original name was Four Mile City because the site was 4 miles (6.4 km) south of NEW DENVER. The permanent name refers to a famous mine of the same name in Colorado.
