SEAWEED, Willie, Kwakwaka'wakw chief, artist (b circa 1873, Nugent Sound; d 1967, Blunden Harbour). A chief of the Nakwaktokw tribe of the KWAKWAKA'WAKW (Kwakiutl), he was a noted carver, singer and orator, one of the key figures who kept POTLATCH traditions alive on the coast during the years the potlatch was illegal.
