Richards, Albert Norton


RICHARDS, Albert Norton, lawyer, lt gov 1876–81 (b 8 Dec 1822, Brockville, Upper Canada; d 6 Mar 1897, Victoria). A prominent lawyer in his native Brockville, he was also active in politics, winning election as a Liberal to the Canadian Assembly (1863) and to Parliament (1872). In 1874 he immigrated to BC with his family. His Liberal connections in Ottawa stood him in good stead and on 28 July 1876 he was sworn in as the province's second LT GOV.
