NEIL, Al, jazz musician, artist (b 1924, Vancouver; d there 16 Nov 2017). An accomplished JAZZ pianist, he began performing in VANCOUVER in the late 1940s and helped organize the Cellar jazz club, which operated from 1956 to 1964. The LP Kenneth Patchen Reads with Jazz (Folkways 9718) displays his bebop piano style. During the 1960s he became involved in free improvisation and mixed media.
