KENNEY, Herbert Martin "Mart," musician (b 7 Mar 1910, Tweed, ON; d 8 Feb 2006, Mission). He moved west to BC with his mother when he was a baby and began playing the saxophone when he was a teenager. He made his first professional appearance in VANCOUVER at age 18. Three years later, in 1931, he formed a dance band that evolved into the legendary Mart Kenney and his Western Gentlemen.
