JOHNSTON, Rita Margaret (Leichert), politician, premier 2 Apr–5 Nov 1991 (b 22 Apr 1935, Melville, SK). She came to BC as a child and began her political career as an alderman in SURREY in 1969, the same year that Bill VANDER ZALM became mayor.
