Hutchison, James Hay


HUTCHISON, James Hay, hydroplane builder and racer (b 10 May 1909, England; d 1995, Vancouver). A self-taught designer and builder, in 1939 he became the first Canadian to build a 3-point hydroplane. From 1946–64, during the heyday of hydroplane racing locally, he set Canadian speed records with his "Teaser" hydroplanes and won the Northwest Gold Cup 4 times.
