Hopkinson, William Charles

HOPKINSON, William Charles, police official (b 16 June 1880, Delhi, India; d 21 Oct 1914, Vancouver). His father was an officer in the British Indian army and his mother was Indian. He was a member of the Calcutta police when he came to BC on leave in 1908. Because of his background and his knowledge of Hindi, he became useful to the immigration department and the Royal Northwest Mounted Police, both of which engaged him to spy on political activists in the local SOUTH ASIAN community.
