Heriot Bay

HERIOT BAY, pop 625, is a small community on the southeast side of QUADRA ISLAND facing Rebecca Spit. It began in the 1890s as a LOGGING centre; commercial FISHING has also been important. A ferry connects Heriot Bay to Whaletown, CORTES ISLAND. The Heriot Bay Inn is a descendant of the original hotel, built in the 1890s and operated for many years by Hosea Bull and his first wife Cordelia and second wife Helen. The community was named for F.L.M. Heriot, a relative of a British naval officer.
