HACKING, Norman "Norm," journalist, marine historian (b 12 Feb 1912, Vancouver; d 18 Sept 1997, N Vancouver). He studied history at UBC, where he edited the Ubyssey student newspaper. During WWII he served on convoys in the N Atlantic with the Canadian naval reserve. During his time as marine editor of the Vancouver PROVINCE newspaper (1947–77) he wrote about all aspects of BC shipping.
