GRANT, William, sea captain (b 22 June 1835, Grantville, NS; d 1916, Victoria). He went to sea at age 16 and 6 years later was captain of his own vessel. In 1873 he married a young schoolteacher, Helen Smith (1853–1943), and together they embarked on a life at sea that took them around the world on many adventurous voyages.
