Elk


ELK is a large member of the DEER family (Cervidae). Also known as wapiti, an aboriginal word meaning "white deer," elk were misnamed by early settlers who thought they were moose, which in Europe are called elk. This statuesque animal, with its long legs, neck and head, is tawny coloured with a dark brown mane and a buff-coloured rump patch.
