Deas Island

DEAS ISLAND, 70 ha, is in the south arm of the FRASER R between RICHMOND and DELTA. It is named for John Sullivan DEAS, who operated a SALMON CANNERY on the island from 1873 to 1877. Today it comprises Deas Island Regional Park, with trails, picnic sites and 3 heritage buildings, and is joined to the mainland by a causeway. The George Massey Tunnel carries Hwy 99 under the Fraser R via Deas Island.
