Beaver

BEAVER, later known as Beavermouth, 80 km northeast of REVELSTOKE near the confluence of the Beaver and COLUMBIA rivers, was an important CPR depot established in 1884. A SAWMILL produced the vast amounts of timber needed to build snowsheds in the mountains, and "helper" locomotives were based here to push passenger and freight trains along the steepest sections of line. With the opening of the MICA DAM in 1973, the area was flooded by KINBASKET RESERVOIR.
