ALCALÁ-GALIANO, Dionisio, naval officer (b 8 Oct 1760, Cabra, Spain; d 21 Oct 1805, Battle of Trafalgar). An officer in the Spanish navy and an experienced hydrographer, he explored BC waters in summer 1792. He joined the MALASPINA expedition in 1789 but stayed in New Spain (Mexico) in 1791 when Malaspina visited NOOTKA SOUND.
