BC Gas Inc

BC GAS INC, a shareholder-owned company with headquarters in VANCOUVER, was incorporated in 1988 when INLAND NATURAL GAS acquired the Mainland Gas Division of BC HYDRO AND POWER AUTHORITY. One of its 3 principal subsidiaries was BC Gas Utility which distributed 90% of the natural gas consumed in the province, serving some 750,000 customers in more than 100 communities through a pipeline system exceeding 36,000 km in length. BC Gas Utility purchased natural gas from various suppliers whose gas came primarily from wells in Alberta and northeastern BC.

The other 2 major subsidiaries of BC Gas Inc were TRANS MOUNTAIN PIPE LINE CO LTD, a petroleum PIPELINE transportation company, and Inland Pacific Enterprises Ltd, which offered energy and utility marketing and consulting services. BC Gas Inc also operated a wood-burning power plant at WILLIAMS LAKE; the electricity produced at the plant was sold to BC Hydro. In 2003, BC Gas Inc changed its name to TERASEN Inc and at the same time BC Gas Utility became Terasen Gas Inc. See also OIL AND GAS INDUSTRY.
