Wayne Robson 1946-2011

I was sorry to read yesterday about the death of the actor Wayne Robson. He made most of his living in the East but Robson was a Vancouver boy, one of many graduates of Miss Rowe's drama class at Lord Byng High School in the 1960s. He was class of '64; I followed along in the class of '65, but while Wayne played the leads I was more of a spear carrier.

I never knew Wayne personally but everyone at Byng admired his talent, both as a performer and a singer in one of the folk trios that proliferated in those days. Later this talent was realized in many memorable performances on stage, in movies and on television (where recently he was a hilarious regular on The Red Green Show). My own favourite Robson performance was as Shorty in the landmark BC-made movie, The Grey Fox.

It is a tragedy that he died just before making his debut at Stratford. It would have been another milestone in an already distinguished career.
